Frequently Ask Questions (FAQ)

Can PROSIM/PRODSS be run in Excel 97 (Office 97) environment?

Yes ! Once properly installed, PRODSS can be run under Excel 97 (Office 97) environment.
Can PROSIM/PRODSS be run in a Windows95 environment?Yes ! Once properly installed, the PROSIM and PRODSS can be run in Windows 95. If you cannot create the PRODSS icons under Windows 95, please refer to the Demon & Fix section to download file - fix01.exe to fix your problem.
Can
PROSIM/PRODSS be run in a Macintosh?
No! PROSIM and PRODSS were designed for running in a PC only. We are not planning to deploy them to run in the Macintosh.
Can
PROSIM/PRODSS be run in a network
environment?
Yes or No! First, since PROSIM needs to write an " ini " file in the Windows' system directory and most servers are write protected, without the assistance of your network administrator, PROSIM/PRODSS may not be able to install in a network. Also, they need to be installed in a non-write protected hard disk so that the data and report files can be written and updated.
Secondly, PROSIM and PRODSS were not designed for network environment. Therefore, you may get error message if two people access the same file at the same time. If you have this type of problem, wait a second and try again.
Can I adjust printer's font and margin for the reports?
No! To prevent from hardware incompatibility, PROSIM has been modified (see Demons and Fix 2 and 3) to control the printer's font and margin settings. There is no way you can change those. The default font is Courier and Font size is 12 points. If for any reason you need to change the printer, use your Windows to manage your printer. PROSIM was designed to use the Windows' default printer.
Yes! You may be able to change the settings of PRODSS's reports. But we recommend you not to do that.
Can PRODSS be run with Qutro PRO or LOTUS 123?
No! PRODSS was designed using the VBA (Visual Basic Application) not the macro language of spreadsheet, therefore, it cannot be run with Qutro Pro or Lotus 123.
I am very good in MS Excel. Can I modify the PRODSS code?
No! PRODSS has been protected to prevent from unexpected events. You may find a way to break the protection but we won't recommend you to do that.
Why sometimes I still get "File Not Found" error even
if I have already configured my diisk?
This problem may happen if you switch to use another PC at the computer Lab. If you encounter such a problem, you need to reconfigure your disk and of course, your original data file will be replaced.
How many
teams can PROSIM manage?
No Limitation! The PROSIM system does not put any restrictions on the maximum number of teams (firms) allowed for simulation. The number is up to your computer RAM space and the disk space (hard disk or floppy disk). However, the greater number of teams specified, the more disk space it will take. It may also take longer time to complete all simulations. Meanwhile, the PROSIM system will allow you to plot class summary reports for as many teams as you want. The number is only limited by the RAM of your computer.
If you got "File Not Found" error, your PROSIM system has not been properly installed or configured. First, a properly installed system will have four subdirectories - sys, decs, hist, and report - created inside your PROSIM directory. The sys directory should contain four files - decso.dat, hist.bak, param1.bak, param2.bak. Secondly, once properly configured, your hist directory should contain several "histX.data" and "histX.bak" files. Where, X represents team number. Your sys directory should add a "param.dat" file. Several "decsX.dat" files should be copied to either in the decs directory or in a floppy disk (if you configured your system to a floppy drive). If your machine has different specifications from the above, you need to either reinstall or reconfigure the system. Also, to access reports, you must perform the simulation first. Give me a call if, after some experiments, you still cannot make it work.
